Showcasing young artists who are mixing pop and politics

Left Field

Following a triumphant return last year, the Left Field is once again raising the red flag and the green banner at the festival, bringing together an eclectic mix of activists and artists to address the issues of the day through debate, comedy and music.

Kicking off at midday with our public debates, this year we will be tackling the coalition’s cuts agenda from the perspective of students, trade unionists, bloggers and the disabled, discussing global solidarity and the fight for green jobs. Among the speakers over the weekend will be Tony Benn, Claire Solomon and Bob Crow.

From 3pm Billy Bragg will be hosting his Big Round-Up, sitting down with fellow singer-songwriters to swap songs. At 5pm Left Field turns over to comedy followed at 6pm by an evening of bands and artists with an activist edge.
