I have recently stayed at New Victorian Suites in Lincoln, Nebraska and wanted to share with you guys my experience. I usually don’t do this type of thing, but they really surprised me in terms of the quality of service.

The room were exceptionally clean, the beds and furniture were brand new just like you would find in high hotels, and most importantly, they responded quickly with any sort of request.

You do speak directly in your performances, so in some ways I can understand how these are not a stretch - but at the same time they open to a much more personal look at your process. You are an artist that I have enjoyed for a very long time. From my college years, which were steeped in punk rock to current days in which the hardness of the sounds - not always the sentiments - have both softened and returned to my youth being brought up on folk and blue grass. So it was interesting for me to listen to Mermaid Avenue - becoming more aware of your personal connections to folk. And so interesting to see how you digested Woody's lyrics in collaboration delivering your process in a different way, yet having a product that felt very much yours. Until then, 'Billy Bragg' was just one of many names I'd listened to in the Eighties as a teenager (oh, ok, also someone I'd listened to as he talked politics in a small room above St George's Hall, Exeter, as part of the Red Wedge tour). I picked up 'Mermaid Avenue' on a whim, then listened to it almost on constant repeat as I decorated my new studio flat after work each night. Whenever I looked around that flat afterwards, I could always hear 'Ingrid Bergman'. Anyway, the point is that that one record opened the doors for me to go back and explore your back catalogue. I'm so glad I did. Your music means so much to me these days, and I keep returning to it. I just didn't see that depth back when I was 15 and 16. So hearing the background of the album has been a real joy. The other thing I want to say is how much I'm enjoying these podcasts and how glad I am that you're putting them out. I particularly appreciated this episode, as it reminded me of my pleasure in Mermaid Avenue, but it's been equally fascinating to hear the whole story. And episode 12, with its talk of fatherhood and relationships, was just blinding. After a night spent tending to my poor chicken-poxed daughter, already feeling fragile from a lack of sleep, that raw rendition of 'The Fourteenth of Februrary' nearly did for me on the bus on the way to work the next day. That and your statement that if parenthood doesn't change your life, you're not doing it properly. I’ve been listening to England, half English alot lately, and it seems you have ‘toned down’ yourself a bit. I do miss the old fierceness u used to have in your words and messages. Your music changed my life in alot of ways(more like blew my mind.) And u r still great but, i do think time and age has had their mellowing effects on u and your music.
