Imagined Nation book tackles English identity24/04/08
Billy has contributed a chapter 'New traditions for an Old Country' to the book Imagined Nation: England after Britain, which was published on St George's Day.

The book is described by Guardian columnist Gary Younge, as "some of the sharpest thinking around on both the pitfalls of nationalism and the potential for a progressive English identity."

Edited by Philosophy Football co-founder and England fan activist Mark Perryman, this highly innovative book explores the future for England after the break up of an increasingly disunited kingdom.

Scotland has a Parliament, Wales and Northern Ireland have Assemblies. What does England have apart from a flag to wave, a team to cheer, and a national anthem it can't even call its own.

Imagined Nation examines the possibilities for a multicultural England, capable of address the legacies of the past, confident in the ability to construct an inclusive future. THemes familiar to all Bragg fans this book is bound to appeal. In addition to Billy Bragg, contributors include Tom Nairn, Paul Gilroy, Andrew Gamble and Rupa Huq.

The book is available as an exclusive first edition signed by Billy Bragg at
