Hello, I have wished for a Billy Bragg poster for a long time, but haven't ever seen one. Do you have any, and can I order one from you, and what do they look like? I especially like the picture of him carrying his guitar case. Please respond. Also, any plans for him to tour the US (NYC area or upstate) this year? He's such a shnug! yrs, Elena.

I have to disagree with Nik: I thought William Bloke was a return to form after the bloated Don't Try This At Home which was padded out with too many weak songs to get that extra-value length. William Bloke's conciseness allows its strengths to shine out. That's why I can listen to Wiliam Bloke but not to DTTAH. Well, not without a lot of tedious CD programming, anyway...

I have been a fan of BB's for about 7 years now. However I have to say that the 'William Bloke' CD was pathetic. I'm glad that Billy's has a son and all, but do we all have to hear about it all the time?? I'm sorry, but the anger, passion and the poetry have disappeared on WB. This has been an exercise in self-indulgence, the last thing anyone would expect from a great performer.

I find it really bizarre that this site has continued to announce that Billy will be playing Respect, but both the people at Respect and even Billy's management at Sincere (whom I phoned two days ago) have no knowledge of his appearance. I guess he isn't playing. I very much appreciate the existence of this site, but please remember: some people will be travelling a long way on the basis of the information published here. Please try to get it right, and update as soon as possible if things change.

Well, Bill, are you playing at Victoria Park on Saturday or not? Wouldn't want to go all that way and then not see you. Good to hear that Dave finally got his horn out again on May 1st. Your whistling is great but I can't sing harmonies to it. Oh and by the way, Brickbat happens to a lot of us - funny how such personal things can have such universal application. I know someone special who cries when I sing it... Love and diminished 3rds, Su xxx

hey all..... does anyone have any good-sounding BBBoots that they'd want to trade? I have a good number already, and i'm looking for more. Specifically, i'd love to find a copy of: 7/92 Penns Landing, Philadelphia, PA and 97 Glastonbury festival Check out my trade list at my web page (http://www.tufts.edu/~rradel) - and you've got my vote for a 2-cd B-side compilation (as opposed to a lame 7-track "Bloke on Bloke"-type release!) ---rob

Very nice page. Last week at my friend's cocktail party he said of me: Heather is the biggest Billy Bragg fan in the world. It may be true, though I'm not *that* big-- just 5'9'' (sorry, don't know the conversion to metric!) I'd like to print out the photos but the University might not like me using up their ink cartridges on non-academia. Also, for some reason I couldn't get on the mailing list. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks, The kind of girl who wants to open the bottle of pop too early in the journey, Heather Moss

I SAW BILLY AT GLASTONBURY TWICE. ON THE PYRAMID STAGE HOWEVER BILLY'S SET HAD TO BE CUT SHORT BECAUSE A CERTAIN MRS SHEYRL CROW WAS THE NEXT ACT AND THEY WERE RUNNING LATE. SO? BILLY, YOU SHOULD HAVE STOOD YOU GROUND AND TOLD HER TO PISS OFF!

Helloo... as no-one seems to be mentioning it, i saw Billy (twice!)at Glastonbury at the weekend - and it was brilliant. First set was in the acoustic tent, and was mostly covers. He started with "Spanish Harlem", and did "That's Entertainment", "Green Onions" and loads more - best of all, however, was "Ice Cream Man" by Jonathan Richman, one of the greatest live songs ever. It was a Glastonbury Moment, oh yes. A thought tho, for years people have said Billy can't sing, so he must have been doing _something_ in the lay-off cos he was in wonderful voice that night. Second set on the Sunday on the main stage was pretty much a greatest hits, and he was in fine form, talking about how THE MUD (the mud...) had seperated "the men and the women from the posers," and went on about how Glastonbury was usually Camden in Somerset, but this year even mobile phones didn't work. Long impassioned speech about May 1st was extremely moving, and prompted three Clean Kids next to me to say "That's all very well, but mortgages have already risen." I have never seen 8,000 people GLARING at the same spot before. The Clean Kids shut up after that.

About two months ago I went touring round France with me mate Dave Griffin. "I'll bring along some Billy Bragg tapes" he said. "Oh no" thought I - "Billy Bragg has got to be one of the most irritating gits on the planet..". Three days of solid Bragg later I was at the end of me tether. I was so upset that I nearly took it out on Dave by murdering him and burying him in a shallow grave near the Somme... Why then, after such a short time, am I now an ardent Billy Bragg fan? Why do I crawl the web yearning for information on my new-found hero? Why am I desperate to catch him on tour? Why do I know all the chords to 'New England' and drive the wife mad by sitting up late at night strumming it? Why can't I get the words of 'The Price I Pay' out of me head...? Beats the crap out of me! Anyway, thanks Dave - you won the bet... Cheers.

Worst song Billy's ever written, Paul? Well, it's not "Just One Victory", if only because <pedantic> Billy didn't write it.</pedantic> It's a cover version of a Todd Rundgren song.

Whether that's any less of a crime is a moot point...

I have decided 'Just one Victory' the worst track Billy has ever written! It sounds something like a you would expect from the Christian Television Association! I have now listerned to it three times in a row just to see if it would grow on me and well... no it hasn't and frankly I'm glad it wasn't included on Bloke on Bloke. The tune is Naff, the backing vocals make me cringe and I don't think I have enough wrists to deal with hearing it again for a long time!

Okay Kids tell us you LEAST Favourite Billy Bragg Songs and why!

Yours playing Walk away Renee five times just to cleans my memory of J.O.V.

Actually Pete, I like to think of myself as a diehard fan or at least a bit of a Bragg'oholic... and it has take until today for me to get my hands on 'Boy done good' (I love it by the way....and Bloke on bloke has not yet stopped revolving) I have had it on order, since the Nme told me its title.... In Australia (... somewhere outside of the UK! Look up 'victim of Geography' in the dictionary and you will see my fucking name) the import copies still haven't shown up in Australia, I have rung around... I had to get mine by waiting until my sister on Holidays bought out HMV in London, she then did a bit more touring and then months later at 5:05 am this morning (to be exact!) I tore open her suitcase... (in the car park at the airport, i might add) So Thank you Bill for giving us the chance of getting all the tracks you release! Mind you I'm going to get the other discs I missed, when I can.

I can see your point but as I have said before, and I don't mind saying it again "Another bill disc in the hand is worth two spice girls on the charts!"

The excuses for the release of Bloke on Bloke given on this site are pretty damn lame: "This CD has been made available at a special low price to assist those who blinked and missed the singles or lived outside the UK and so never got to see them anyway." If they were horses, they'd be shot. Don't kid us: you know that the diehard fans from outside the UK will have shelled out over the odds out for the two singles on import already, so you're not doing them a favour, you're ripping them off, and laughing at them. And then just to get the rest of us, you slip in just one ever-so-slightly new track on the album. Want my money? You can't have it! Who came up with this idea? I can't believe Billy was a party to it. Was he? I've got a load of records by this guy who used to put "Capitalism is killing music" stickers on the covers. How about putting some on Bloke on Bloke? Good day, Billy! How you keepin'? My demands are simple: (1) Who is Shirley in "New Brunette"? (2) What, exactly, is a "Brickbat"? and ( 3) Would you ever consider stopping in to Halifax, Nova Scotia, the next time you're on your way to Toronto? I'd surely make a point of hearing your songs as performed live on the east coast of Canada...maybe join us all at one of our many locals after the show...? :) You rule, man. And isn´t it time Mr Bragg got his Red Stars together again? I´ve said it before and I´ll say it again: It´s time for some type of a backing band. Don´t you folks agree? Indeed, a full-scale rarities compilation would be a very welcome addition to the Bragg canon - much more so than BoB. I was just starting at the beginning...

How about it, Bragg office?

Long live the Ration of Passion, indeed!

Hey Rob

What about other great b'sides like

Bad Penny

Sulk

7min must I paint you a picture

Hmmmm.... and some rarer titles like

raglan road

seven as seven is

reason to believe

she's leaving home

all of which would be nice to have on CD. Personally I don't care... all I need in my life is to know there is a Billy Bragg, which I have quite alot of and that the passion hasn't gone out of the Brit music scene! Long live the Ration of Passion

Ps. I'm still waiting to get an import copy of 'Boy Done good' so this mini album is good by me!

If you're going to put out a compliation of B-sides that people may have missed, how about...
"Scholarship is the Enemy of Romance"
"I Don't Need This Pressure, Ron"
"Think Again"
"Walk Away Renée (version)"
"The Tatler"
"Deportees"
"Jeane"
...now that would be worth buying. And you could throw in "Days Like These" while you are at it. It's an A-side, but then so is "The Boy Done Good".

Just my humble opinion, of course.

Is it worth buying the new album for qualifications and sugardubby. I quite like the Moodswings versions on the Boy done good single. Anyway I suppose if people missed the singles it was worth having. I particularly like Thatcherites and I think Billy's voice on No-one ever is at its most achingly bleak. Cheers for all the great moments Bill

'Bloke on Bloke' - a bad idea Bill. The more I think about it the more I think its a very bad idea. Sorry, but its the way I feel.

Just saw BB at the Fleadh Festival at Randall's Island New York. Was wondering if there's a posting board somewhere that keeps track of reviews and such. I'd love to share my notes of the show with other BB fans.

So Billy catches on to the capitalist ideal and releases a 'compilation' album of previously released tracks. Bloke on Bloke - I've already got it.

I'd like to this time, your time, to just simply thank you for all the gift. From time to time I honestly stubble across a gem and you my friend, if I may take the the liberty to call you that, are a rare thing. It seems that all the people out here in la la land( los angeles) are so moved by the ol' powerful green back. No they worship the thing not for any of right reasons though. Simply to keep it in a bundle and show it off to the less fortunate. As for me I don't forsake it, I just have a firm to semi-firm grip of it's reason, or what could be done with. You and I, judging by your music, have this in common. Sure is a wonderful feeling to know that someone else out there hasn't give in. More power to you and take their generals. From the battle ground this is Alex saying so long.

Are there any Billy fans reading this who live in Frankfurt? I'm moving there next year and I don't know a soul. :( So I though fellow Billy fans would be a good place to start. Cheers!

Dear Billy, Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciated your appearance at Bohager's in Baltimore. I'm a fairly new fan, I must admit, as I had never been exposed to any of your stuff before hearing bits of Worker's Playtime in an alternative video store. I've been listening to Worker's Playtime pretty much every day since then (it's GREAT!!), and as soon as I get some money, I plan to sample some of your other stuff. It was great seeing you live, and I deeply appreciate the fact that you're such a pure humanist. I thought your performance was filled with wit and charm, and the songs sounded wonderful. You're a genius, and I hope your stay in the U.S. is enjoyable. You're always welcome in my little corner of the world, and thank's for being a great guy!! Sincerely, Tim Rothmeyer

Web site is good, gets to the point. I like the idea of not including pointless graphics, well done. One question, will Bill ever be touring with the rocking Red Stars again? and just one more, will he be likely to be playing in Manchester again in the near future? Thanks for your time. Nikki

Hey Phil, a question what Bootleg are you talking about with MBH on?? I have one, but for the life of me can't think what it is at the moment.... Hmmmmmm...that's from 'Safe' Shite I'm still waiting for 'Walking and Talking' to come to Australia, let alone safe!

Ok who wants to send me a video of it??

Also Bragg trivia time... What is the name of the movie that has 'Life among the lions' all the way through it?
The story is about this complete loser guy whos' life falls apart, and get worse and worse until his dad runs off with his girl friend and he gets a job promoting dog food!

Also see a recent Australian movie called "children of the revolution" the final scene is made by the playing of 'tender comrade'!

Catch ya soon!
