I saw Billy on the eve of the 97 election in the UK at Nottingham's Rock City, the night before we got the result we had always dreamt of, a Labour landslide ! and he was fantastic - brilliant music, politics and humour. We love yer Billy.

What's to say? I'm pretty impressed with the website, though, I'm not really too much interested to this newfangled internet crud. But it tugs on the heart strings of this uncouth punk rocker, so it get's two thumbs up.

Billy, seen you play in Baltimore & Dc over the past 6 years. Missed you by one day at the South Virginia coal mines at Thanksgiving in 1990? Had a great time anyway. Ever need a place to stay stop by & see the wife & I. Ex-pat & proud of it. My mum has a shop selling brit food & stuff if you miss the stuff on tour. Love the music, can't wait for the next tour. Couldn't face marrying a yank so i found a great French girl.

I think Armando Ianucci put it best when he said "Enoch Powell made the most popular speech of his life this week when he went 'uhhhh'". Well, as the world hangs by a thread, the Americans send 5,000 young lads to the sunny climbs of Kuwait, although obviously their not positioning for a strike. Oh no. Uh-uh. Jaw jaw is better than war war, said Churchill, mind you he was probably pissed at the time... As I was watching the England vs. Chile game, I realised what England's national anthem should be, after all Scotland have 'Flower of Scotland' played at their internationals. I thought of something that embodied Britishness, patriotism and the British way of life : The theme to "Terry and June". "du-du-didle-le-diddle-di-di-der-der-der.." Brings a tear to the eye, doesn't it?

We all know that Iraq doesn't give a care on what their fighting about. It is sad to hear that great countrys like Canada and the U.K fell into the traps of the U.S.A. I think these two countrys should think for themselves. The British were always the best at starting revelutions. I think this problem should not be solved by the governments but the world. People are always saying that the millenium will bring bad fortune. Maybe if we all become pot heads we will all be happier people. Peace!!! (Where is John Lennon when we need him the most? Only Billy Bragg will fight till the end!!!)

Well, OBVIOUSLY the 50% of smart bombs that don't hit their original target don't get their gunners as many points in the 'Blow The Goddam Hell Out Of Iraq Tournement 1998', and then they lose and the gunners who missed stomp around the aircraft carrier and sulk and cry like girls, and get sent to their bunks early by the Admiral who has to go and have a hot bath because he's so stressed and he wonders why he bothers having this silly contest anyway. Interesting Facette #567: Apparently, those lovable rogues the Tories were selling agents to make anthrax to Iraq as late as 1993. They don't let anything get in the way of a good deal, do they?

Did anyone witness that disgrace of a person, Andrew Roberts, ranting on and on on Question Time. With the pinned-stripped suit, crappy hairdo, posh voice and bullshit, I thought he was the Tory representative. What a caring chap, "I don't care that tens of thousands of people will be killed in Iraq." and "I won't send my wife to the Gulf, she's not Iraqi". This guys got to rival Portillo on the quotablity-o-meter, remember such gems as "Doctor Fact is knocking on the door, will someone please let the man in."? I recommend the Unofficial Michael Portillo Fan Page (To help people come to terms with the trauma and loss of his election defeat.) You can find it from the Private Eye links page, or the Daily Telegraph (!) link page. http://www.private-eye.co.uk don't know the telegraph's one as it's a rag.

It's alright folks, I've just heard that "at least 50% of 'smart bombs' find their designated targets" on this morning's news. I'm certain that will come as a considerable relief to the majority of Iraqi citizens. Another thing-don't you think that we should be allowed to inspect the American and NATO arsenals for any 'weapons of mass destruction' I've heard the Pentagon is rather fond of its sarin gas supplies. Pot Kettle and Black are the words that spring immediately to mind (not that I support Saddam Hussein's regime, mind)

I still think the best gig I've ever seen of any description was Billy at the Sydney Town Hall in March 1989. One of the best things about it was the crowd itself; a Billy Bragg crowd seems to have a special vibe: unusually nice, friendly and *intelligent* people to share a large dark room with...and also, people who aren't afraid to CARE about something once in a while, something rarer than we may want to think in real OR cyberspace. It's a pleasure I've only had three times since, and that's one of the reasons it's so great to find this page. :) ...and yes, Q *does* seem a little strange...:) Glad to be here!

My flatmates won't believe me. COME BACK TO SCOTLAND BILLY-IT'S BEEN TOO LONG. Had to laugh at the coverage of Pope JP2's visit to Cuba on American tv. American senator: 'living conditions in Cuba are unacceptable' obviously choosing to forget that it is their trade embargo which causes most of it. Never mind. Finally Billy sang about Florence Ballard. When I was about 12 years old I had this great fasination with her and Motown left her with nothing. She had the best voice in the Supreemes but she did not get along with Diana Ross. Soon Diana started going out with the boss Barry Gordy and told him to ckick Florence out of the band. After Diana had total controle of the band and decided to change the name of the group to "Diana Ross and the Supreemes. That is one of the reasons why I just sold my Diana Ross records. Florence Ballard should be remembered 4ever. Billy Bragg is the best and he should come and visit Canada. Billy is my Milkman of Human Nature.

So, the strike is over, and what has happened? The sad truth is that in this day and age, they can offer insulting settlements, because when you're children are going without, you just have to be insulted don't you? By the way, I was at a meeting with Mandelson the other day, he was trying to convince Old Labour members that New Labour was still all about old socialist values but with new ways of getting them across, say what you like about him, but he's a very good communicator, even if it is all bullshit. I asked him about Mike Fosters (fox hunting) bill, he said it would probably go through no hassle, although he said he could be wrong. The strangest thing about him is that he always looks like he's in "soft focus", very strange.

I saw Billy for the first time on the don't try this at home tour in Toronto at the Ontario Place forum, ever since, I've been a huge fan. I play in a band here in Toronto called Declan Nine, and we met backstage at the Friendship festival. He liked my 'Queen's Soccer' sweatshirt. We talked and exchanged band t-shirts. It was really cool. I saw him on the William Bloke tour at Barrymore's in Ottawa and again at the Assembly Room in Edinburg last summer. Looking forward to meeting again and to getting any new releases.

You are the peoples choice of middle England to write the England '98 world cup song. Quite a forum is building up, please do not deny us

Billy, will you write and perform England's World Cup song please? We've had a debate on the Football Guardian 110% site and decided you are the man for the job. Ta.

Pete Crook's Billy Bragg Christmas Quiz Apologies for the delay in posting the answers. I'm in the middle of completely revamping my BB website. Please bear with me 'til the end of January. Other things I'm intending having on my site are: - Links to the many other excellent unofficial BB sites around the world. - Live concert pics of Bill (I've already been sent loads). Watch this space!

Billy Bragg Live Tape Traders Wanted. If any one out there is interested in trading tapes please contact me at rarerecs@globalnet.co.uk . I have 200+ shows/sessions for exchange. I'm particularly looking for pre-1984 gigs or anything from election night onwards.I'll trade for anyhing I don't already have so please get in touch even if you only have part of one gig taped. If i dont have it I'm sad enough to want to trade it. Also has anyone got a tape of the Roundhouse show from September 1996. Everyone there seemed to be into him enough to know all the words to all the songs (except Billy!) so surely someone taped it. Many Thanks. Steve Andrews.

I've just watched a video I recorded a few years ago - a BB concert in London (with Michelle Shocked) circa 1988. I can't believe all that was 10 years ago! It made me cry and reminded me of the love I shared with friends and lovers at the time. You and your music made a great difference to my growing up - and I still play it today. Thanks.

I have just read that £40 for an autograph message and want to say this: What a load of cobblers. I've got loads of Billy autographs and all of them were offered with a smile and a chatty comment. If fact, I can't think of a more down-to-earth 'personality' that I have met. Keep up the good work Bill and look forward to seeing you in Barking again soon.

Okay, has anyone else seen today's Guardian? I can't remember the last time I was so angry. The new chairman of the Royal Opera,Colin Southgate, going on about how the smelly working classes shouldn't be let in? When it is those self same people whose taxes pay for the fucking Opera house? Not that any of them can actually afford to attend the opera, when tickets are about £200 a time. And does EMI President Mr.Southgate actually pay for his own tickets? Course not! He goes on the company's corporate ticket! Bloody bastard! Privatise the opera! Let it sink or swim on its own merit, not survive on the back of the labour of honest working people who will never venture past its hallowed doors. Let the dirty ponces fund their own fucking nights out-they can certainly afford it. Anyone busy on the last night of the proms this year?

Love the latest words to " A New England " since Jack came along, but after your concerts I can't recall the lyrics ( must be the Guinness ). I wish you included that song on your bootleg that I bought from the back of the van in Boohager's of Baltimore last sping, moments before you left for New York. "It is SO cool to go looking for prams", you wrote for me to give to my wife to be when I first met you after that show. I can assure you when she and I till our prams one day we will "till them with love". Thank you for your words, my friend. I wish you and your family the very best. "The love that we have is so important".

In a word, Fantastic! I saw Billy for the first time at Glastonbury '97 & I was transfixed. This is a cracking set of pages, containing as much Bragg as the mind can cofortably conceive. I'm sticking this as my link URL when I'm in chatrooms, so every other bugger has to visit "God's own homepage" & discover the joy of the Bignosed Bard of Barking (sorry, Billy). Oh, can I just point out that it was Billy who inspired me to properly learn guitar? I got a copy of the "Back to basics" songbook on pure whim, looked at it, and started along the long slow road to the heights of Urbane Folk Music.
Cheers Billy. Ian Rennie ir102@york.ac.uk

I'll trade my love today for a greater love tomorrow...heavens above, can this sticky stuff really be love?...I used to want to plant bombs at the last night of the proms...if you've got a blacklist, I wanna be on it...how can you lie there and think of England when you don't even know who's in the team...god, who can choose just one? Nice to be back from a knackering NY in the US. You miss a lot being away...is jack Straw's son in some sort of trouble or something?

BILLY BRAGG YOU ARE A TRAITOR. I SAW WHAT YOU DID AND HEARD WHAT YOU SAID TO UNIONISTS IN LONDON AT CHRISTMAS. YOU HAVE TURNED YOUR BACK ON THE FIGHTING MAN. THE SONGS THAT YOU SING SPEAK OF UNITY AND THE COMMON GOOD BUT YOU NOW REPRESENT SELFISHNESS AND GREED. HOW COULD YOU SUGGEST TO A STRIKING WORKER THAT HE IS A LOW BULDGER. I AM SURE THAT HE BELIVES IN HIS HEART THAT HE IS FIGHTING FOR THE COMMON GOOD EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE NOT, AND BY THE WAY I THINK 40 POUNDS FOR AN AUTOGRAPH IS CRIMINAL BILLY BRAGG GET STUFFED

I first say BB play when I was a junior in high school (1987) I saw him play at Northeastern U. in Boston. What a great show. I [roceeded to follow him for the next few shows. I've been a fan ever since. The last time I saw him was with the Barenaked ladies in Albany, NY. Best show I ever saw at the Egg. Thanks

Maria, they're not really "unpublished Guthrie poems." They're songs which Woody wrote (or typed) the lyrics to, but never recorded, so we don't know what music he intended to accompany the lyrics. That's what Bill's been doing--working out the music. Many of us have had the honor of hearing some of the new Guthrie-Bragg tunes, as Bill has been "working them in" during recent gigs in London. But in answer to your question: Bill will be going into the studio during January 1998 to lay the Guthrie songs down on tape. The album will be out sometime in 1998. Woo hoo!
