Am I the only one to find the new Lib Dem leader (who's 40 or 41) appointing Brian Eno (60 next May) as yoof consultant somewhat amusing? All I can think is that they're trying to get a good deal for their next election video.

Hmmm, sorry Red Star. I might be wrong, but I think that your new thread is going to be a complete turkey.
I've seen this Lib-Dem leadership contest debate, on the sunday morning Andrew Marr show.
And would anyone really give a toss?

(I don't think anyone does).

i lilke brian eno, i have great respect for him. however when i read this

In 1994 Eno was approached by Mark Malamud and Erik Gavriluk, senior designers at Microsoft on the Chicago project. The result was the six-second start-up sound for the Windows 95 operating system, commonly called The Microsoft Sound. From an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle:

i think i want him shot come the revolution.

now, if brian ferry wrote the intel inside jingle we could wipe out a significant portion of the toilet 'pop' music of the seventies on the glorious day.

Eno did write the Windows start up ... but he did it for a price so got ripped off by Microsoft just like the rest of us.

It's a stroke of genius; Eno is a massive icon to today's young people. The sound of 'Taking Tiger Mountain (by Strategy)' blasts out from the youth centre across the road across the road almost every night of the week.
Apparently Nick Clegg has also lined up Jeremy Clarkson to advise on Integrated Transport Systems and Reducing CO2 emmissions; the Lib Dems' plans for constitutional reform are going to be drafted by the Krankies and he's getting Steve McLaren in to lead on reviving English football.

Oi, Nevs! That's Roxy Music you're talking about, you fool! wink.gif

JBoyd... if you say so... I think if you spoke to most "yoof" though, they'd ask you Brian Who?

A recent MORI poll suggested that most of those kids you see in 'Slipknot' hoodies actually have 'Cotswold Gnomes' (Eno's recent collaboration with Robert Fripp) on their walkpods (or whatever they're called).
'Music for Airports' is heavily sampled on the latest 50 Cent LP; and the NME last week said that the next musical project by Jordan and Peter Andre is a 're-imagining' of 'Here come the Warm Jets'.
Probably.
So who says that the Lib Dems aren't cool?

The rather fantastic Deborah Orr, gave her opinion on this story today.
But non fans: can you please not click on this link.

JBoyd - you can't suddenly do comedy (although the above is one of the funniest posts I've read for a while), I'm going to now think you're always being sarcastic!!

Actually, I am sarcastic quite often, but people don't seem to notice.... However, if you think that's funny, you should try to track down the Liberal Party's record of the late 70s/early 80s, 'I feel Liberal' with David Steel rapping.
And all we had was 'Red Wedge'.....
Happy New Year!
