RUN! RUN FOR THE HILLS! THEY'RE COMING TO GET YOU! GUNS! KILLERS! TERRORISTS!

No, this won't fuck any kids up permanently.

I think the most incredible part of this is that one of the talking points from the right-wing following the Virginia Tech shootings is that school kids should be able to carry weapons so they could gun down potential assailants.

From the article that your article linked too:

"During the last night of the trip, staff members convinced the 69 students that there was a gunman on the loose. They were told to lie on the floor or hide underneath tables and stay quiet. A teacher, disguised in a hooded sweat shirt, even pulled on locked door."

Can you imagine if upon seeing this, one of the potentially armed students pulled a weapon out and blown the teacher's head off?

Shouldn't these idiots be setting an example to impressionable kids? if so, what kind of example is this? I can only assume that these 'staff members' involved have way too much time on their hands and posess an over-active imagination.

There's a part of me that's not surprised by this. All too often, teachers forget that the human beings in front of them are actually someone else's kids and fail to put themselves in the shoes of parents. What would they think if someone staged a drama like that on their kids?

Couldn't agree more.
But where is the Right Wing/Left Wing divide on this?

Murfeesboro Tennessee couldn't be more right wing, if you'll excuse the term, redneck, hysterically Bible-belt Republican. The right wing in this country thinks the solution to attacks like at Virginia Tech is to arm everybody.

OK, I can see that, but which side is actually representing the Right here - the teachers who staged the 'event' (which sounds pretty stupid to say the least) or the outraged parents?

I don't think there is one: it's a matter of common sense.

These are the kind of people who think Red Dawn was a documentary. I'm sure they practice terrorist alarm drills at home...

No, I agree, but I thought that the implication was either that the teachers or the parents were behaving like right-wing maniacs, and I wondered which side it was.
