Given the almost contiuous stream of incompetance coming out of the Home Office these days, does anyone believe they are fit and proper people to manage our Identity Records when the National Identity Register comes on line?
For that matter are they fit and proper people to manage anything?

Nope.

There's probably 20,000 civil servants in the Home Office, very silly to say they are all bad, and very silly to expect any government or it's civil service not to make mistakes, any large organisation either in the public sector or private will make mistakes.

We have record levels of prosperity and more holidays, cars, electronic goods etc not to mention the best funded public services and best paid staff ever. The shortest waiting lists and times ever and more students studying than ever. What a sucess story yet all some people do is complain.

Grown ups realise that you can't have everything and changing things for the better takes time, it's often a case of two steps forward, one step back.

As long as we've got you coming in and tooting the horn for New Labour everything will be alright, won't it Mick?

And no I wouldn't trust this or any other government to run the ID scheme, thats one of the many reasons I'm against it.

Absolute shambles at the Home Office.Trouble is, that not many of those on the payroll have the political will to carry out the government instructions on policy and procedure.

The revelation the the immigration department employed illegial immigrants to clean their offices, was a a classic.Only bettered this week, when it was discovered that the employer at Lunar house who was acussed of the sex-for-visas scam, was HIMSELF an illegal migrant. You couldn't make it up.

Unable to locate and deport men, the Home Office is rounding up women, particularly those with children, because they have settled lives and addresses.

A classic example of 'We must do something. This is some thing, we'll do this'.
Of course they don't give a toss about the victims of their own incompetance.

In response to a Commons question. The home office have revealed today that they have already released 53 murderers and rapists, who were given life sentences since 2000.

Yes, you heard right.53 people handed a life sentence 6 years ago or less, have already be let out of prison.

Looks like John Reid is doing some sensible revision stopping the mergers of police forces which the Police largely don't seem to want and and slowing down the id card process. Looks like he's a man who doesn't want to waste the taxpayers money. At this rate he could do better than Straw/Blunkett and Clarke, time will tell.
Graham
Although on the other hand, he's involved himself in a row over a judge's sentencing that he had no business getting involved in and has ended up with the Attorney General doing exactly the oposite of what he called for.

No. He's a man who's realised that Labour wouldn't stand a snowballs chance in hell of getting re-elected if he pressed ahead with these nasty totalitarian schemes. The left hate him and the right hate him so he's got to back down or be sure of a good few years in opposition or even retirement.

Reid is displaying more of the charecteristics of the bully we know him to be. He's also a coward. Had any of his words over the last few years been in the remotset bit sincere he would not be changing course now. He's a bullying overbearing gobshite cowardy custard.

John Humphrys: (for the eleventeenth time, BTW) Have any Weapons of Mass destruction been found in Iraq Mr Reid?

Bully Boy Reid: Look John, We had to remove Saddam. He killed thousands of his own people.

And on it went for a good ten minutes as the fucker refused to answer a straight question and ended up making sure Gillighan and Dyke got the push.
