The 1000th execution on America's Death Row since the reinstatement of the Death Penalty is soon to occur.

Convictions and legal processes in America in relation to the death penalty are notoriously unfair and unreliable. If you doubt this then visit the Houston Chronicle at:

to read a recent example of the dire situation.

Greg needs your support and encouragement. Please visit his site - it will open your eyes, and hopefully your minds.

Greg has now been on death row in the notorious Polunsky unit for over 9 years. The State of Texas has recently denied his appeals for the granting of a Certificate of Appealability and oppose his application to the 5th Circuit (federal appeal court) for this decision to be overruled. They are denying him every basic Constitutional right on the grounds of time limitation. This is outrageously unjust since the reasons for not meeting the time limits rest on his present and past attorneys. He is being further punished for the inadequate representation appointed to him, as an indigent, by the state of Texas.

Gregs friends and supporters have created a new website which offers full access to his trial transcipts, appeals and other legal papers. The site also gives information about how YOU can help Gregory Wright - a man innocent of the crime for which he is sentenced to death. PLEASE at least have a look at it - and tell your friends?

Wife And Supporters Campaign To Free Gregory Wright From Death Row

Family and Supporters of Greg Wright, inmate of Polunsky, Texas Death Row, have launched a new website as the centerpiece of a publicity drive to draw attention to yet another miscarriage of justice in the controversial legal arena of the Death Penalty. The site, www.freegregwright.com, also available on CD, draws particular attention to the contrasting use of “evidence” between the trials of Wright and Adams, a man later tried and convicted of the same crime. Also, the misuse of Adams statement, the “loss” of vital 911 tapes, and the withholding of retained physical evidence from Wright's current legal team.
Livingston, Texas (PRWEB) August 14, 2006 -- Gregory Wright has been on Death Row at the Polunsky Unit in Livingston, Texas, for almost 10 years. He is currently awaiting the decision of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeal (05-70037) regarding the refusal to grant a Certificate of Appealability by the Texas Courts (No.3:01-CV-0472-K).

Greg maintains that he was wrongfully convicted of Capital Murder in 1997 (F97-01215-PJ). In his latest Appeal to the 5th Circuit (05-70037), Greg's attorneys set out the case that the Texas courts have consistently denied his applications for relief, in spite of clearly documented violations of Constitutional Law and legal practice. Greg, his wife Connie, and supporters, are desperate for help to make people realize the mistakes that have been made and the great wrong that is being done to Greg.

"He is innocent, and we are asking for your help to persuade the authorities to take his appeals seriously," says Greg's wife, Connie Wright. "This would allow access to evidence by his defense team that would help prove his innocence."

This is a complicated case in that Greg was convicted and sentenced as the sole perpetrator of this crime (R51.13-16). He was implicated by John Adams who was later convicted of the same crime (F97-01214-PJ). The same judge and prosecutor were involved in both trials. Adams admitted his guilt in a 911 call, and in front of other witnesses who have subsequently given sworn affidavits to Greg’s attorney. There were two 911 calls made, the first by the man Adams confessed to, the second by Adams himself. Although discussed at Greg's trial, none of this evidence ever reached the jury since the 911 tapes could not be produced by the prosecution. Greg and his defense team were not made aware of the 911 tapes until the first day of trial and when the defense team asked to review the tapes they were told the tapes were “lost.” It is clearly documented in the trial transcript (F97-01215-PJ) that these tapes were obtained by two police officers and delivered to the prosecutor’s office. We know these tapes must still exist somewhere.

Evidence used to convict Greg was:
a) Size 32 waist Umen jeans soaked in the victim’s blood. At the time of the offense Greg wore a size 36, weighed approximately 190 pounds (DeSoto arrest record, State's "x" Exhibits 90) and clearly did not fit into the Umen jeans. John Adams weighed approximately 160 pounds and had a size 32 waist (Testimony of Adams from Adams's trial, (R34.201). Witness statements show that Greg was wearing a new pair of black jeans the night of the murder. The Umen jeans were old and faded. The courts now deny access to the jeans to Greg’s post trial defense team on the grounds of “fishing.”
cool.gif Written statement of John Adams. This statement was entered into evidence at Greg’s trial but Adams was never brought in to court to testify. This was a clear violation of the 6th Amendment. This statement was used in Adams trial and was deemed “self seeking” and “unreliable” by the same prosecutor who used its credibility to convict Greg. The prosecutor’s statements are recorded in Adams’ trial transcripts (F97-01214-PJ).

The new website - www.freegregwright.com – also available on CD, gives access to all trial transcripts (Greg & Adams), legal appeals, witness statements, etc.

On behalf of Greg, please contact us and explore the possibility of an investigation to help reveal the truth. If the 5th Circuit turns down his latest appeal, there will, without your help, be little time or opportunity for his attorney to bring forward the further evidence that would help clear Greg’s name. All he asks for is a fair re-examination of his case in an unprejudiced court.

Gregory Wright denied DP Case Review by 5th Circuit - Wife speaks out
Peter Bellamy - supporters@freegregwright.com

The 5th Circuit Federal Court of Appeal, on November 17th 2006, released the astonishing decision to deny Gregory Wright, currently on Death Row at Polunsky, Texas, a Certificate of Appealability (05-70037). His wife, Connie, reflects on a distressing day but also appeals for help, letters of support, and your prayers.

Disbelief and anger sum up the response of Gregory Wright's wife, relatives and friends as news of the 5th Circuit verdict (05-70037) reached them on Friday. After an emotional few hours, during which Connie rushed to be the first to give her husband the bad news, a quiet determination to ensure this miscarriage of justice did not prevail replaced the emotion.
Connie wrote:
"November 17th has been a very trying and sad day for my husband & I. We learned a little after noon today that he has been denied by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. I was able to see him and give him the news. He is understandably shaken but took it very well. He says this is not the end and we have a mountain to climb, but we'll climb it together. Please keep Greg in your prayers. He's a wonderful, innocent man. We must stay strong and united as family and friends to support him to whatever end we face. I expected he'd be upset and the visit would be horrible Rather than that it was sad, but we talked of God (he finally got me to understand the Trinity!) and Faith. We discussed a few practical things but all in all it was a wonderful visit between a husband and wife. He's strong and he has Faith - which comes through his strong belief in our Lord. We ask for your prayers and support through the next few months. I was told by the attorney that he has 90 days to file an appeal with the Supreme Court and he doesn't expect an execution date to be set until after that ruling if it is negative. He also said there are cases sitting before the court now that can hold Greg's case up because of similarities. "Step by step, day by day, If God Brings You To It, He Will Bring You Through It. " We have to remember that and be strong for our Greg. Love to all, Connie"

We hope that these words will serve as an appeal for further help from the legal profession, media and all those who believe in justice.

Greg has recently has his final appeal to the Supreme Court refused consideration. There is to be no review.

As the appeal was supposedly being considered by the Justices (in all probability just by their clerks), Greg volunteered for a truth test (polygraph). His requested this from the trial Judge, and also for DNA testing to be allowed. His friends and supporters paid for both tests. The polygraph test was successful. The DNA test results are still awaited. None of this was considered by the Supreme Court before dismissing his petition.

We have just released 2 more press releases to explain this both to the legal profession and to the wider public.
If you have read the earlier explanations of Greg's case on these pages, you will understand the immense injustice that is unfolding here. Gregory Edward Wright in INNOCENT. While people walk on the other side of the road and refuse to accept that it is THEIR business; that THEY can do nothing to help ensure JUSTICE - then victims of the seriously flawed Death Penalty system in the US will continue to be wrongly EXECUTED. Greg is likely to be one of these.

Please read these press releases. Greg's wife and family are desperate for help. Visit the website -
http://www.freegregwright.com - and see how you can help, even if it is just signing the online petition. Please act today.

DNA Tests Suggest Gregory Edward Wright, On Texas Death Row, Has Been Wrongfully Convicted Of Murder

On December 10, 1997, a Texas court convicted and sentenced Gregory Edward Wright to the death penalty for murder (F97-01215-PJ). Today, his attorneys have authorized release of news that approved DNA tests show evidence used at his trial, and crucial to the prosecution case, is unlikely to be reliable. This new DNA evidence, together with a recent successful polygraph test, suggests that Wright has been truthful in his assertion of innocence.

Livingston, Texas (PRWEB) August 6, 2007 -- Greg's legal team, headed by Bruce Anton and Meg Penrose have authorized the following announcement: "Following approved DNA testing in recent weeks, Gregory Edward Wright was excluded as a contributor to the DNA on the knife used in the crime for which he has been accused. Additionally, it has been found that Greg's DNA is inconsistent with the biological material found on the pair of jeans, claimed at the trial (F97-01215-PJ) by the prosecution to have been worn by him."

These two facts, coming as they do on top of a successful polygraph examination, represent significant new evidence in this case. It is the intention of Greg's attorneys to seek immediate consideration of these factors by every legal means.

In June 2007, the Supreme Court of the United States refused to consider a Writ of Certiorari (No. 06-10186). In November 2006 the 5th Circuit Court of Appeal declined a Certificate of Appealability (05-70037). Wright's wife, Connie, states: "The new DNA evidence challenges still further the prosecution theories of my husband's actions and complicity in the crime of murder. He has further shown he has told the truth by convincingly passing a polygraph test in May this year. Greg has always declared his innocence of this crime and now it is the duty of the courts to heed this new evidence. I live for the day of Greg's exoneration and release from Death Row. We place our trust in the legal process of the American courts to ensure that Greg is protected from a miscarriage of Justice."
