not really a surprise, i think it was a case of jumping before pushed. interestingly he said he'll still be available for 1-day games, where he probably still has something to offer.

gloshire were making a good fist of chasing surrey's 297, over 100 for one after 15 overs, but then a series of suicidal run outs decimated the top and middle order, surrey won easily in the end and have drawn level on points with a game in hand at the top of the league

Why is that when England are bowling, there is a sense of inevitability about the batting side making a large total, whereas when England are batting........

i had to elbow mr b in the ribs to wake him up whilst watching the cricket today (4th test) ... and we were there!
he's supposed to be the big cricket fan around here

might have been something to do with the couple of beers we had, and the hot afternoon sun.
melbourne was excellent, yes, apart from day 1. a great comeback, india were looking REALLY good. ricky's 200 was fab, and there were some great wickets taken! hopefully this will be a similar situation, with a big improvement for the next four days. today nothing seemed to come together properly, apart from some pretty impressive stats from jason gillespie, who's back after his injury.
i'm really sad that steve's retiring

who's legs will i have to perve at now?
ps. moster: are you the '12th man' fan, or was that jon?

Jan 2 2004, 12:55 PM
the first day of the test was completely packed! everyone in sydney wants to farewell steve waugh. the section where we sat was unallocated seating, and we got there two hours before the start, and STILL didn't get a seat. you had to be there at about 6 or 7 am to get a spot today!
however, we managed to score a great spot standing along one of the elevated walkways, and had a really good view. after about 4pm, enough people had left for some of the standers to get a seat, so the afternoon was lovely for us... shame there were no wickets, though.
nonetheless, glad to see tendulkar having a better day.

could it be that the australian dominance of world cricket is going to depart with waugh ? that was a pretty toothless display of bowling today

which f***ing over? all of them???
was there yesterday (day 4)... people were calling out from the stands "at the stumps!! at the stumps!!" what is with the bowling? are they just distracted by all the hype surrounding steve's farewell?
poor brett, he's a favourite of mine, and to see him have such a horrible time was sad, i felt really sorry for him as it just went from bad to worse. and then the batting! lets not even mention that!
thank god for gillespie, who had a great game, esp. with the bat... oh, and his hair

it was fairly typical of everything that has happened so far in this test that he just missed out on beating his bet ever score with the bat. there's just been nothing go right in this one

not to take anything away from india, who have been amazing... and i'm so pleased that tendulkar did so well.

See, there I was thinking that the Oz team looked pretty good, and I sat and watched most of the test, admitedly getting slowly comatosed on Bundy
Rum & Cola. The state teams leave a lot to be desired.
Both Waughs are leaving now, aren't they?
It'll be interesting to see if Fat Boy gets back in the squad.
