the only rivalry i've ever spotted is one drunken Warks lout singing 'I'd rather be a Bear than a Pear' and a Worcs fan of similar state reversing the nicknames. that happens a lot.
on a serious note tho i like Worcs, i love going to New Road and i what can i say, i live closer to Worcestershire than Warwickshire, just closer to Edgbaston.
it will hit them hard financially as you say but if you look over the years they've always managed to pull the money out from somewhere. Take overseas players such as Akhtar, Moody and Mcgrath as evidence.
moster
fucking hell, gloshire wanked all over somerset tonight. tresco, white and langer all out for single figures.

an unexpected victory.

swingers, you in bristol for fridays game?
readytoswing
Probably not Mos, too many sods on the sick at work currently and muggins here left to cover em all. I'll work on it tho, my aunt and uncle live down in weston, which basically feels like Brum by the sea.

You gonna be there?
Red Star
Another 1 day defeat for Yorkshire Phoenix ...... basically Yorks haven't an idea about how to play 1 dayers ... meet the new boss, just the same as the old boss. Lets hope that our Championship form doesn't go or Yorks will be having their year end party at Scarborough in July sad.gif huh.gif
moster
swingers, yeah i'm going. hopefully i'm going to make all 3 remaining home games in the 20/20.

red, it has nothing to do with the format, it was all round poor shot selection after you'd done the hard work in the field. gough was pretty scathing about the batsmen in his after match interview. rightly so i thought too, if the keeper's stood up you have to play in front of square. that's basic stuff.
moster
had the misfortune to be sat near some loud mouthed cunts from birmingham.

still, it was probably a big day out for them. the prick in the fez giving it the "come on then" at glos fans every time we hit a boundary was a real tool. small man hiding behind brick shithouse mates, as per.

anyway, to the game. warks 0-2 when we walked in. downhill from there. retricting them to 149 should have been enough, but a poor batting display followed and it was never in doubt after about 3 overs.

took a fair few pics with my new camera. if any are decent i may put them up.

Nice pics.

How did the game go Mos? Sounds like it was Ambrose who did the damage again, that guy is class, think Sussex may regret letting him go now that Prior is established for England. Obviously glad we won but this 20/20 is a complete lottery in my book.

A drunk brummie in a Fez? Sounds about right yeah. I could tell you about the time i was about 14 and stood on the Leicestershire pitch when a fight broke out at the end of the game. Nice. It was mainly Leicester fans that time but i shit a brick, lol.

A close one for Nott's yesterday but enough to keep them top of the table. smile.gif

two 20-20 games for me this week. on wednesday a limp defeat to somerset, then last night the roles were reversed in a comfortable win over glamorgan.

i took some cracking photos last night, once i've re-sized them i'll post a few up.

Went to Surrey Vs Kent at the Oval on Friday. That's the first 20-20 I've been to and I have to say, although its a great social event, its not my sort of cricket. No one was paying any attention to the game and it was quite hard to keep track of what was going on, who was bowling etc.
Couldn't find a programme for sale anywhere which does make it harder and they weren't announcing who was bowling or anything.
In the 2nd Innings, everyone sitting near us was more interested in the magnificent pint pot towers that were being created (and then confiscated by the security staff) than they were in the game.
Still, Surrey lost, so I'm happy.

Evidence that them down the road don't want to help themselves. This is more likely to derail their season I think Red Star.

LV County Championship - Division One
New Road - Day Three
Match abandoned as a draw

Kent have slammed Worcestershire after their attempt to stage their County Championship match at New Road backfired with the game abandoned as a draw after a third day was lost due to the state of the ground.

Worcestershire chief executive Mark Newton took the decision to try and play at New Road just days after it was submerged by the recent floods instead of moving the four-day game to Kidderminster.

The reason behind the switch was to try and prepare New Road for a lucrative day-night match on Friday, but the plan has backfired as showers added to the already sodden outfield made any play impossible.

With the game now called off as a draw, Kent director of cricket Graham Ford has lashed out at the Worcestershire officials for their decision.

"There's still a lot of water lying on the ground, quite a few puddles and a lot of slushy mud in very important areas," he told Sky Sports News.

"The ground is probably in a worse condition now than it was on day one.

"We feel pretty let down by the whole thing, it has been frustrating and disappointing. We wanted to get out and play four days of first-class cricket in good conditions.

"First-class cricket in England is very high quality and the players deserve to play in suitable conditions, and it looks as though there was no chance of that ever being possible.

"We had other options available and we certainly feel that the game should have been scheduled somewhere else, where there could have been four days of cricket."

Oh and sorry Aqua, didn't see your post about Jonathan Trott's call up last week. He's a big, strong lad but does tend to be one of those guys who scores single figures or big scores.

English, in other words.

I've been buying q/f tickets as well. The finals day at edgbaston could turn into a bbf-athon.
readytoswing
Well technically he's another one of these South Africans that opts to play for England but yeah he'll fit in nicely.

Obviously I'll drink to that.
Red Star
I can't defend Worcs as I know what we'd have been saying if it had been Yorks playing this week. BUT we've had 2 days not playing at Old Trafford because 'its too wet' so Kent aren't the only ones to suffer.
readytoswing
Marcus Trescothick, can't keep a good man down.

We do need him admittedly tho.
moster
apparently the rumour i pm'ed around about his preferences has since been confirmed as definitely wrong.

the parenthood question is rife with all sorts of rumours tho.
readytoswing
bang goes my attempt at discretion then, lol.

dunno what the parenthood one is tho.

There's a possibility that I may be going to the Bears V Outlaws Pro 40 at Edgebaston on the 24th.

I would love to say that I'd see you down there Aqua but I've got a job interview the following day.
Should be a cracker tho.

the swinger is most definitely checking his diary.

Me and Monty have a lot of making up to do.

how many did that Carberry smash today against the Bears? I can't look seeing as i always thought he was pretty terrible.

oh and addition to my last post Moster, there's a very, very good chance I'll be there on the 29th.

Best of luck with the interview wink.gif

Thank you Aqua.

Are Notts still in the 20/20?
If so, definitely then, I'm pretty sure we are hosting finals day this year.
Red Star
I see Kent have managed to get the washout out game replayed. I wonder what would have happened if it had been Yorks rather than Kent ? btw Yorks & Lancs wanted to play the washed out 20/20 game at Headingley the night after but weren't allowed to ..... the game had been sold out in advance.

I spent 2 of the last 4 days hoping for play at Old Trafford so can't really get excited about Worcs/Kent's fate. I suppose we did get 2 days play though.

p.s. Apologies to anyone watching the Lancs/Yorks LVCC game on Sky yesterday. You were 'treated' to an extended view of my ugly mug .... 2 seperate people have been in touch to let me know biggrin.gif

Nott's are in the quarter finals V Kent on the 17th.

For Moster wink.gif
aquaman
Oi Moster !

Sneaky business from your Shire boys declaring at 0 for 0 after 1 ball to prevent Nott's getting any bowling points !! ohmy.gif
moster
you agreed to the draw matey.

anyway, you should have declared earlier, bowling points are easier to get against us than batting points at the minute.

prospects for a full 20/20 down here tonight are slim, what about you?
aquaman
Arrived at the ground to be told "Called off lads, come back tomorrow at half past five"
moster
10 past 4 in the morning? are you sure that the best thing to be doing was posting on here? >winks<

anyway, we managed a 17 over game, when the break came worcs were flying and looking like they could get 160-170, but after the rain we really reeled them in, and as a result did quite well out of the d/l calculation. after we smited 16 off the first over the result was never really in doubt.

i'll try and upload some pics onto flickr later.

so the bbf-athon at finals day is a possible go-er.

some bad news though. i've just checked the train times and the last train from birmingham back to bristol is 10 past 9. that's not going to be late enough is it? i may have to book a travel inn type thingy.

unless of course glos lose the first match of the day, (in which case i'd be tempted to see if i had time to get back to watch mangotsfield).
readytoswing
Looks like there will be some play at Edgbaston tonight as the weather here is one hour of bright sunshine followed by half an hour of monsoon rain in a repeating cycle.

Btw Moster, 10 past 9 will NOT be late enough for the bbf-athon but I won't be presumptious enough to imply we'll win tonight.
moster
we've been given an allocation of 1,500 tickets.

i'm friends with a member, i'm hoping that none of his other friends wants to go, as members are only being allocated 2 tickets. after that it'll be a free for all.

10 past 9 will be plenty late enough when you consider that i will have been drinking from about 9am.

i was talking gibberish on sunday and that was after 3 hours, mind you i wasn't pacing myself, at all.

I think many Yorkies expected us to lose. In one day games we fold under pressure. There were many factors. Poor team selection (Brophy obviously wasn't fit. At Old Trafford he took a very quick stumping off Rashid, last night he missed an easy one off Wainwright), poor fielding (Dizzy's drop was alwful), poor tactics (Younus still bowling near the end) & the revival of an old favourite ... the great Yorkshire batting collapse (from 142-4 to 155 all out).

But if we'd have got to Edgbaston I probably wouldn't have gone (As a member I'd have hoped to get tickets). Even if I we did go I wouldn't have been drinking. I go to a game watch the cricket & get drunk in the pub afterwards (it's MUCH cheaper !!).

Oh well it's back to watching it rain on championship games & wondering if Yorks will ever win a Pro 40 game.

btw Be warned Moster that 20/20 finals day is a bit odd. We went to the first one at Trent Bridge, even though Yorks weren't there. There were gaps in the crowd all day because many supporters of the teams in the 2nd game didn't arrive for the first & losing team's fans left rather than watching he remaining games.
readytoswing
I take my own beer into the ground and if I run out by lunch then i pop over to the off license to get some more, I wouldn't dream of paying Edgbaston prices.

The two most local boozers for you to check out Moster are the Selly Park Tavern and Sir Harry's, both within walking distance of the ground. Be warned however, Sir Harry's carries the look of an estate pub but is opposite a hall of residence so it can fill up with knobhead students from time to time.
