When we set up the 'London Bombs' thread to check on the safety of our friends and to tell our stories and to use our limited information to analyse what was happening to us and why, we didn't expect to end up in the Polical wasteland.

Did we?

The thread on puddings could be described as a currant affair, why hasn't that been exiled too?

OK, with that out of the way, I would note that Alberr's question of who's doing who is particularly appropriate at this time. In the US, there seems to be an epidemic of female teachers doing their students. Many may be familiar with the Mary Kay Letourneau story (it happened in my hometown), but over the last few weeks there have been two others. Pamela R. Turner, a gym teacher at Centertown Elementary School in McMinnville Tennessee and Debra Lafave, a remedial reading teacher facing trial in two Florida jurisdictions for allegedly having sex with a then-14-year-old boy from her middle school.

At the expense of looking like I am appealing to purient interests of middle aged men thinking fondly back to their highschool year fantasies (which is exactly what I am doing). And, recognizing a double standard about which I am painfully aware. And, not to diminish the real suffering of the victims. Here they are:

When asked for comment, the victim, obviously in a state of shock, said, "OMG it was awesome! I mean... horrible? I'm like all damaged and stuff? Do I have to go to class?"

Just thinking about Mrs McCarthy and the sound of her nylons rasping together as she strode up and down the aisles still has me dreaming of what boys at that age were not supposed to dream of ... along with all the other boys in my class ... except silly Simon of course ...

But those pics of those women in the US make them look damned attractive and as young as their pupils ... Mrs McCarthy never looked like that!

You might be right. However, they have had two children together and he seemed very mature at the time. Perhaps he has truly moved into the "I'm a responsible parent who loves my wife" role and is content with his choices.

I admit to having a hard time with this thread as well, for the same reasons that were just posted above. (Um, not the part about being bitter and angry. My teachers weren't very attractive anyway....)

I've had a close friend this happened to and it was horrible. I'll spare you the details, but a very traumatized boy was targeted and groomed by a pedophile who just happened to be female, and it did him a hell of a lot more damage.

I also work with clients who had similar experiences. Sorry I can't be all light and fluffy about this, but I find it really upsetting.

That said, now that I know what this thread is about, I'll just not visit it again. But I just really felt compelled to say this. Sorry if I've put too much of a damper in anyone's fun.

Please carry on. (and feel free to slag off both Courtney Love and Steve Coogan for the utterly repulsive story that she was pregnant with his child. Eeeeeuuuuuuuuwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!)

A friend of mine in high school (female) had an affair with her math teacher (male) when she was about 16, and he was 28 or so, I guess. Nobody ever knew. I found out years later. So I guess it does go both ways.

ETA: I suspect it's much more common for male teachers to have relationships with female students -- I suspect we hear more about female teachers and male students because A. boys brag, and B. our society is still sexist.

My French teacher, young and according to my girlfriends, 'groovy', shagged the French mistress, too old and too married to interest any of us boys, on a school trip. All the girls listened outside the door and whispered all the dirty details to us. Not too bad I guess ...

I just wanted it to be clear, that I put numerous disclaimers and noted that it was to be satirical in nature in my first post in an effort not to offend anyone and to admit that there is an obvious double standard here. Yet, I fell as though I still owe Maria and TAFKABO an apology. So, I apologize unconditionally.

Having now said that, I can't think of a many people, given what has transpired could claim that Vili Fualaau is leading an emotionally scarred life.

I will admit to sharing this exact sentiment. However, satire is satire, to be effective it sometimes has to cross the line.

Outside of schoolboy fantasies concerning 'the older woman', I wonder how I would react if my own son, perhaps in his early teens, was having sex with an older woman, perhaps in her middle twenties, or late forties, or any woman at all above his age group. (Interesting Freudian slip ... should age matter?) And how I would react if she was his teacher, his doctor or his cub mistress, or anyone else who had authority over him.

The fact that I can ask the question if it was a woman, whereas if it was a man I would not, does suggest a double standard in my own approach.

Not sure what I would do ...

I once heard a young man describe how he had been forced to have sex with an older woman over a couple of years. He described how absolutely horrible it was and how frightened he was. How disgusted he was. No sweet sexual fantasy there.

But in the cases discussed here it doesn't appear to have been forced onto the lads. Does that make any difference?

'Age of consent' laws suggest that any sex between an adult and someone below the age of consent is "forced", by definition. But in Mary Kay's situation, it is really hard to say that these laws are appropriate for all situations.
