  7. Jane says:

Feel priviliged to have heard first public outing of this song at Garforth last night. Lyrics as clever as ever – voice better than I remember! Thanks Billy.

  8. Dax says:

    Aimee’s Dad,

No one gives a shit outside of Liverpool, It’s the scousers fault we all have to sit down at football matches

The scousers still haven’t learnt see their behaviour at Eindhoven 2005, Athens 2007 and at the Emirates 2008/09

  9. Richard says:

Excellent new song. Thought Billy was really on form last night (great unusual venue for him too) and this new song was I think because he couldn’t keep up with the NotW fiasco to re-write “It says here”. That’s what he said anyway.

And this great new song made up for him not singing my favourite BB song – “Waiting for the Great leap Forward” on the 2 occasions I’ve seen him this year.

  10. sean says:

a nod or a wink to Murdock landing on our shores and Kinnock not falling over this time ….. but you are the lyricist! – Rosebud rhymes with hosepipe – in Aussie at least. Fantastic… for a first draft!

  11. Dave Jackson says:

Great song and sentiment Billy Thanks
    And
Dax = “are you Murdoch in disguise,,,are you Murdoch …in disguise”

  12. Alex says:

    Great song.

  13. dave musker says:

Excellent song Billy. I loved the lyrics. I am an Evertonian and would not be caught dead with a copy of the S*n.

  14. Tim Daw says:

That was brilliant, a brilliant commentary. Thank you so much.

  17. Scouser says:

    Great song.

Dax it’s the police’s fault we all have to sit down, because they can’t control crowds properly.

People died because of poor crowd control and inadequate safety measures. It was rightly a watershed moment that led to a huge shake up.

On the not learning front there are a few idiots following every team (particularly chelsea) all over the world and when it comes to violence the ability of a few scousers is hard to compete with and must intimidate southerners.

  18. malcolm says:

    Excellent work, as usual.

  19. Andy says:

Brought a tear to my eye, even for a Leeds fan!
    NEVER FORGET WAPPING!

  20. John says:

Scousers set the example, let’s all make it ‘Britons never buy the Sun’.

Hope you don’t mind if I shamelessly link to a political song I recorded on welfare reform and the terrible damage it is about to do.

  25. Johnny says:

Billy has kept the spirit of protest alive throughout the last 25 years – we are in shock and awe that he has managed to distil the sentiments of the majority of the country into a short song with a lovely melody.

    - In a country where the media have an unhealthy grip on the psyche and consciousness of our nation (particularly our youth) and celebrity and fame is the primary goal of our school children rather than talent and value, the spirit of an active counter-culture is vital.

What would it take to get this released?

In any debate you get people with ill-informed and single agenda views – Dax is a good example of this. This is not a football song – (although I can see it being adopted by the Kop) this is about justice – scousers dont have a monopoly on justice-seeking but they have the required conviction to follow through regardless of the timescales involved.

Those that question the validity of the Hillsborough claims – in my view have their own petty prejudices or petty club rivalries at heart and not humanity.

Those that try to align Hillsborough to Heysel – again single agenda – ‘my club is better than yours bullshit’ in the 84-85 season scenes of fighting happened up and down the country at levels much worse than Heysel – QPR, Millwall, West Ham, Bradford, Celtic – the difference was a stadium with major construction and structural issues.

Every Liverpudlian I know is ashamed of Heysel – not one is ashamed of the behaviour and heroism demonstrated at Hillsborough in 1989.

This song is not about Hillsborough – it is about an effective boycotting of an organisation that has been rotten and disfunctional for the at least the last 3 decades – and this action being a call to arms to the rest of the UK to bring this galling empire to its knees!

  26. Ian says:

Dax: You are a coward. You don’t give your name or any link to who you are.

You are wronger than a very wrong wrong thing, by the way. I know of plenty of people who are not Liverpool fans who recognise the lies of the s*n (and scum like you)).

  27. David Byfield says:

Nice one. I remember – sadly – the lurid Scum headlines about `Scousers robbing the dead` and other such BS after the Hillsborough disaster. When The Scum came up with stuff like `an attack on The Sun is an attack on the working class` I just could not believe how arrogant and presumptuous they were (and still are). First NoTW is down; next must be The Sun.

  28. Red Umpire says:

Any plans to release this Billy? Please do. I’m sure I’m not the only one round here who’d buy a copy.

  29. Graeme Cunningham says:

    Brilliant work.

I wonder if the message will sink in with Rank Turner? I was suprised and disapointed to see that someone who’s so clearly influenced by your work has no problems jumping into bed with the Scum to further their career:http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/bizsessions/3016072/Frank-Turner-performs-Biz-Session.html

  30. mr t says:

    big up billy

  31. Peter SEddon says:

That’s a great song Billy – thanks from all Liverpool fans. I don’t suppose there’s any chance of you performing it at Anfield is there?

  32. Jon Freedman says:

Thanks Billy – beautiful, moving, and I look forward to hearing it echo around Anfield, while The Digger’s camera’s broadcast the whole thing live!
    Please release this as single.

  33. Neil says:

    Billy,

I just wanted to take the time to applaud you for this brilliantly simplistic but, as ever, all the more powerful for it, piece of work.

In these days of Cowell led 15 minutes of fame and an increasingly apathetic society spoon fed fatuous opinion by monopolistic despot media it is so refreshing to hear a genuine protest song again.

Social media can be the enemy of thought control when used actively by those with the talent to get messages across.

I am a Liverpool fan but whilst this song will be embraced by the Kop for it’s links to 89, this should not alienate decent people from any walk of like or with any other club allegiance. It is not about Hillsborough people, it is about sticking to what you believe in, having the sense to question what you are told and seeing it through to the end no matter how long it takes.

    Thanks again Billy

  34. Michael Foote says:

Bill, cometh the hour cometh the song. This is the hour and this is the song. In all honesty a nail could never be more fully hit on the head. It would be well funny if you stood outside the Sun’s HQ and sung it, and say invited a few thousand buskers to join you in a musical revolution. All the best mate.
A comrade in the south. (We do exist!)

  35. Tim says:

Time for everyone to follow what the Scousers are doing…Cheers Billy

  36. Kieran says:

    Well in Billy. Great Stuff!

  37. Ann Bishop says:

Great protest song Billy !! It never ceases to amaze me what utter tripe some people pay good money to read !! I wouldn’t wipe my backside on any of the gutter press of this country!! but as you say in your lyrics the corruption went much deeper and wider than that! there are still coverups going on and there’s a lot more to come out yet! Hillsborough was a terrible thing that happened but the debate is more far reaching than that, its not just about football its about common human decency, privacy and a right of protection under the law………yet again we have been failed on all points

  38. Spike says:

Brilliant – never bought The Sun – Never will! love it – No one should buy The Sun – the pain and grief poor journalism has caused! Time for it to follow TNOW!!! DONT BUY THE SUN … pass this on!
