Well Done Billy! Whole hearted support for your anti-bonus campaign!(or "Bankers are W*nkers" campaign!). Seriously, Billy may I make a suggestion please? To encourage the good bankers (there must be 1 or 2 surely?) I suggest that you make a very prominent banner asking for them to give up their bonuses until the tax-payer has been repaid. If any do volunteer to do so, give them huge publicity on your website and promote them throughout the media. He/She will be a 'Hero of the People' and hopefully many others will follow suit when they see the public adulation!
All the very best with your campaign Billy!
Cheers!

I think Billy's music is inspirational to many people. I applaud your efforts in trying to get prisoners to take up a musical instrument. I don't agree with you attacking the RBS when there are other banks doing much worse.

Hi Billy,
Have just returned from an evening at the Tyneside Cinema watching the film Breaking Rocks about your initiative Jail Guitar Doors. I have never felt so uplifted and spent such an enjoyable evening which didn't include alcohol (ha ha), on a Friday night, for a long time. I hope the initiative grows and grows, it is something that I feel is important in the lives of prisoners. I work in the Probation field and know that rehabilitation is crucial. I don't want to just be a 'do gooder', but hope that something like this takes off as it is clearly making a difference in people's lives. Good Luck with it and thanks for a great night.

Hi Billy. I've been a huge fan of yours for nearly 25 years - both your music and political viewpoint. As you might have noticed, I'm stuck in the middle of the banking world - and there are many real bankers in here... Ican tell you honestly that the minions here are getting nothing. We had our bonuses taken away last year permanently (even if the bank gets back on its feet). I firmly believe that nobody should get a bonus - from top to bottom - until the bank is on its feet again and then any bonus paid should be capped. I only wish I could afford to leave here but the economic climate means little chance just now.

Barclays Bank Plc are about to announce bonuses in the region of £ 2.2bn ... to my reckoning that's more than the RBS. I'd be interested to hear your argument(s) on this matter and look forward to reading about your campaign against Barclays Bank. Royal Dutch Shell have been making huge profits over the last few years, so again, I look forward to your campaign against them, too.

I read the article on the BBC News website - why don't you have an on-line petition with the No. 10 Gov website set up? The interest/publicity (and as such number of people) that the BBC News website generates would surely result in a huge petition. As someone struggling to make ends meet on a monthly basis I think the bonuses are obscene. I'll never get a bonus in my NHS job.

I thought Billy Bragg was an irrelevant sad socialist, completely out of touch. In 2010 he is speaking wise words, was he right all along? Perhaps capitalism will still prevail at the expense of the taxpayer?

I would never describe myself as a fan but am always interested in what you have to say. But, well done in your fight with the bankers. Why are people not voting with their feeet or their accounts and taking their business elsewhere?

You are the lowest form of life, worse than those bankera!

Middle aged and middle class bloke here. Not a huge fan of your music, but at least you were always trying to convey something above the usual and you have stuck to your principles. A lot of people who would have run a mile from Billy Brag leftie campaigner in the 80s will listen now. RBS campaign is bang on the money. Remember that Housemartins track about bankers? Where is the music that challenges the established order these days? Even people who 'buy into the system' want to be exposed to alternative ideas if they have half a brain. Anyway, cheers!

Don't you worry you might be risking jail by not paying your taxes ?

As I understand it, talk of Billy going to jail for non payment of taxes ain't true. it's a civil offence. He'll have an extra £100 charge for not paying by jan 31st, 6% interest starts getting added quite soon. If it gets to court, they send the bailiffs in.
The above info came directly from Billy.

I have been a fan since the first time I saw you back in `85 in Montreal, Canada. I have seen you every time since you have made your way to Montreal and Toronto. I appreciate the mixture of music and politics and the sense of passion and humour in which you deliver it. :)

Dear Billy
After helping me through my turbulant teens in the 80s with your wise words, and then seeing you in concert in Birmingham a number of years ago, I was sat in a bar this weekend in Leipzig in the former East Germany and managed to catch your gig on the television. Spot on stuff mate. As always you seem to inspire people with your music and words. The bar was silent throughout the 30 minutes of footage whuich was shown. Thanks for your excellent work and I hope to catch you in concert again.
Tom

Nice one Billy standing against the bankers. Some of the kids in my school even mentioned it. "Eh Sir, that bloke you like might be going to jail" It sparked a great classroom discussion.
Well done

Glad to see you taking a stand for common sense against the bankers bonuses. If you go to jail for non payment of taxes, I will send you a file in a cake.
I set up a petition on the government site about this issue middle of last year, but no one was interested and now it looks like it will just happen on the quiet, as usual.

Heard Billy today on Radio 2.
Don't get locked up for non payment of tax, use modern technology to put pressure on RBS.
They are currently paying next to no interest on deposits such as ISA's so why don't we organise an internet/newspaper campaign for people to move their ISA's and other poorly paying savings to another bank - doesn't matter where.
This could turn into a run on the bank - - a la Northern Rock which is the only thing that would focus the minds at RBS more than a limp slap on the wrist from the politicians.
If enough money is withdrawn they'll have to use the bonus money to maintain liquidity or the Bank of England may bail them out, in which case we are back to square one but Billy won't be locked up and it may have made a point.
Anarchic enough for you Billy?
